About this project

This self-produced 11-track album was a cumulation of songs I'd written over a 2 year period. I ran a Pledge Music crowdfunding campaign to help fund the album which was then recorded at RAK studios in London. The launch took place at Paper Dress Vintage on the 26th May 2016 and the album was officially released on the 23rd May 2016. It was digitally distributed across Google Play, iTunes, Amazon Music and Spotify as well as physically released on CD and 12" vinyl.

The critically acclaimed album went on to win the 'Best Independent Album' award on the Alternative Friday blog. I also played the title track 'Cheap Suit' live at the launch night with 1M+ subscriber, YouTube creator 'The Ukulele Teacher'. The video was posted on his channel and received 5K views in 24 hours.

What I did

The artwork was produced by Patryk Hardziej however I was responsible for how the artwork was used across all other media. I designed the all the posters, banners, CD and CD sleeve layout and 12" vinyl and vinyl sleeve layout and other promotional material (Photoshop, Illustrator). I was also responsible for creating all the assets required for the Pledge Music crowdfunding campaign.

I designed and built the bespoke webpages for 'Cheap Suit' (HTML, CSS, PHP) as part of the marketing and promotion of the album. This included a page integrated into the albertman.com website and a bespoke 'electronic press kit' which was used to send to reviewers and radio stations as a preview prior to launch. All webpages have a fully responsive design.

I was responsible for creating 2 of the official music videos for 2 of the singles, 'Cheap Suit' and 'Skimming Stones'. As well as the promotional video for the Pledge Music campaign. This involved coming up with the concepts and video editing. The song 'Skimming Stones' is about how we don’t engage on a human level as much with each other anymore due to the amount of time we spend on our phones so I thought it would be interesting to use footage taken from my own personal VHS and Hi8 video tapes that I recorded when I was a growing up. All of these videos can be viewed in the embedded YouTube playlist.

Lyrics

Track 4: Skimming Stones

Do you remember when
We‘d sit cross legged playing Scrabble
Watching cartoons with the curtains closed
On a Sunday afternoon
In your front room
Had nothing better to do
Where did it all go wrong

Nothing but lost souls
Trying to find our way home
With the bowling leagues of America gone
The book clubs won’t be ‘round for long
Those Summers spent skimming stones
Lost like rain drops where the river flowed

Do you remember when
We'd talk TV shows and movies
Drinking your dad’s beer 'till the sun crept in
Was Brian Warner in the Wonder Years?
Nobody knew
Had nothing better to do
Where did it all go wrong

Our shared experiences discarded like yesteryear toys
No place left for the good old boys
And Taco Bell will be the only place to go
Before too long
Where did it all go wrong
